Durham
Ladies are now in a strong position to progress to the
semi-finals of the 2nd Division Cup after beating rivals
Newton Aycliffe 6-2. Although the match is over two legs
Durham will be hoping that they have done enough in the home
tie to see them through.
Smith - Great Equaliser

Helen Richardson opened
the scoring for City before Nicki Duckly scored two
excellent solo goals for Newton Aycliffe. However, Durham
then immediately replied with a great goal of their own
through Amanda Smith who weaved her way through the
Newton Aycliffe defence and then lofted the ball over the
'keeper.
The second half was all
Durham and Helen Richardson scored three goals in a
fifteen minutes spell to seal the victory. Gemma Charlton
made the final score 6-2 with a long range free kick
which found its way into the corner of the net.

After the match Durham Manager
Stephen Hamil paid tribute to striker Helen Richardson.
"Helen was superb today, she held the ball up well and
played the easy pass when under pressure and then when she
got half a chance to score a goal she took it. Helen is
proving to be a prolific scorer for us and has 30 goals so
far this season.
