Durham
City Ladies FC returned to winning ways with an excellent
3-2 victory away to Penrith. This result puts the team in a
strong position to reach the final of the Second Division
Cup. Durham play Penrith in the return leg at home on Sunday
15 April at Laurel Avenue Primary School, Sherburn Road -
2pm KO.
Carr - Three Assists
|
Durham started well with Amanda
Smith scoring from close range after a Magda Carr cross.
Although Durham had started well, Penrith scored two goals
in a five minute spell. Cath Beck scored a tap in for
Penrith after the ball had dropped to her off the cross bar.
City's Linda Machell then was unfortunate to score an own
goal after a misunderstanding with 'keeper Korraine Boughen.
Durham then dug deep and
equalised before half time. As the result of some further
excellent play by Carr on the wing the ball dropped to Helen
Richardson in front of goal. The striker scored her 37th
goal of the season by blasting the ball home.
Turner - Woman of the Match
|
Helen Richardson then
won the game for Durham with a second half goal which the
Penrith goalkeeper could not hold.
City Manager, Stephen Hamil,
chose to praise two of the players, "Magda Carr and
Claire Turner have been excellent recently. Magda does some
really unselfish work up front and sets up a number of our
goals. At the other end of the pitch Claire reads the game
really well and plays some nice football out of defence".
