There
were goals galore this Sunday when City turned on the style
against Saltburn.
It was both clubs first
competitive match and it was great for Durham to kick off
the season so well.
Richardson - 8 goals and MOM
|
To be fair to Durham they
did have a number of players with previous Northern League
experience. And it was Helen Richardson, formerly of
Newton Aycliffe SC, who turned on the style. Four goals in
each half saw her receive the first ever man of the match.
The defence and midfield
looked very solid and played some attractive passing
football. Kemp made some great saves for Saltburn but Gemma
Charlton, formerly of Sunderland Ladies scored one (and
missed a penalty!). Former hockey player, Julie Campbell,
scored two in her first ever competitive game.
Late goals from substitutes
Magda Carr (2) and Jane Tremere (1), formerly
of the University of Durham finished the scoring.
Martens - Seeking Promotion
|
Club captain Dionne Martens
commented, "It was excellent to kick off the season
with such a great win. We have made no secret over the fact
that we are hoping to be battling for promotion to the first
division of the Northern League this season. Next we will
have a tough battle away to Newton Aycliffe who are an
established Northern League team - the result of that match
should indicate how we will cope in the second division this
season".
