Preview:
It's a step up in standard for Durham Ladies this year as they compete in the First Division. The only other familiar team in the league is South Durham Royals who were promoted with Durham last year under the name of Newton Aycliffe.

The team to watch may be Darlington who have come down to join the Northern League again after a spell in the Northern Combination League. However, Billingham and Gretna (Carlisle) were arguably the two best teams last year and will both be pushing to win the league and get an automatic place in the Combination League.

Joining the league fresh from Junior Football are Teeside based Marton and Kader who by all accounts are pretty capable teams.

With a strong First Division this year Durham's priority must be to consolidate their position in the 'top flight' and avoid going straight back down. An indication of whether Durham can compete in the top half of the table will be given early in the season when Durham meet Billingham and Darlington on consecutive Sundays.

19th Aug:
Boldon 0 Billingham 4
Durham City 3 Marton 2
Darlington RA 2 Gretna 6
Killingworth 4 Kader 2
South Durham 1 Windscale 1 (match abandoned)
Comments: Pre-Season favourites for the title, Billingham and Gretna, both with impressive opening day victories. South Durham and Windscale game abandoned at half time due to Thunder and Lightening.

26th Aug:
Billingham 3 Durham City 1
Marton 2 Darlington RA 3
Gretna 0 Killingworth 1
Kader 6 South Durham 1
Windscale 5 Boldon 4
Comments: Killingworth perhaps putting in the performance of the week defeating Gretna away from home. Kader also gave a warning to the rest of the league by beating South Durham 6-1.

2nd Sept:
Gretna 6 Kader 1
Durham City 0 Darlington RA 3
Billingham 8 South Durham 2
Killingworth 4 Boldon 4
Windscale 5 Marton 3
Comments: Billingham move clear at the top after a big win over South Durham. Windscale are the only other unbeaten team. Boldon gained their first points of the season drawing 4-4 with Killingworth.

16th Sept:
Boldon 1 Gretna 8
Kader 4 Billingham 10
Marton 3 Killingworth 1
South Durham 1 Durham City 3
Darlington RA 2 Windscale 2
Comments: Marton record their first victory in a very impressive defeat of previously unbeaten Killingworth. Windscale continue their good form and move up to third earning a valuable point away at Darlington.

23rd Sept:
Gretna 9 South Durham 2
Durham City 3 Boldon 1
Darlington 3 Kader 5
Billingham 3 Marton 6
Killingworth 2 Windscale 2
Comments: Kader bounce back after having 10 knocked past them last week by beating Darlington away from home. Marton also perform some "away day heroics" hammering Billingham 6-3. Durham City recorded the third victory of the season putting them in 3rd place in their first ever season in the top flight.

14th Oct:
South Durham 2 Killingworth 3
Marton 1 Gretna 5
Billingham 4 Darlington 2
Boldon 2 Kader 3
Windscale Durham (match postponed - waterlogged pitch)
Comments: Billingham won the 'match of the day' beating Darlington 4-2. Bottom clubs South Durham and Boldon unlucky not to get any points both losing 3-2.

28th Oct:
Darlington 6 Boldon 3
Kader 4 Windscale 1
South Durham 0 Marton 4
Comments: With Billingham and Killingworth on FA Cup duty and Gretna not playing, Kader took advantage closing the gap on the leaders. Not a good week for Durham, who slipped three league places without even playing a game.

11th Nov:
Marton 3 Kader 5
South Durham 6 Windscale 0
Comments: South Durham get their first points of the season with a convincing victory over Windscale. Kader continue to impress with their fifth win of the season beating Teeside rivals Marton 5-3. All other teams where in Cup action - Unfortunately the Northern League's last representatives in the FA Cup Killingworth lost in extra time.

18th Nov:
Darlington 4 Killingworth 3
Durham 1 Gretna 2
South Durham 4 Boldon 3
Windscale 0 Billingham 1
Comments: Leaders Gretna and Billingham both get full points although it would appear that neither matches were easy wins. South Durham continue their winning form beating Boldon by the odd goal in 7. This defeat leaved Boldon 5 points a drift at the base of the league.

Boldon 1 Marton 4
Kader 2 Durham 0
Killingworth 3 Billingham 1
Windscale 0 Gretna 2

Killingworth 1 Gretna 4
Darlington 4 Marton 4
Kader 4 South Durham 0

20th Jan:
Darlington 3 Durham 2
Marton 2 Windscale 1
Kader 2 Gretna 1
Killingworth 7 Boldon 4
South Durham 2 Billingham 0
Comments: Kader draw level with Gretna at the top after a superb 2-1 victory over the title favourites. More disappointment for Billingham as they lose again. And bad news for bottom club Boldon who apparently let a 4 goal lead slip away to Killingworth to go down 7-4.

27th Jan:
Durham 3 South Durham 2
Killingworth 1 Marton 2
Comments: Durham City complete a double over South Durham winning 3-2. Marton, in their first season of Women's football, move up to third after defeating Killingworth 3-2.

10th Feb:
Marton 5 Durham City 0
Boldon 3 Kader 11
Comments: Kader go top of the league as their impressive form continues. Durham City suffer their heaviest defeat of the season as Marton's campaign goes from strength to strength.

17th Feb:
Boldon 1 Durham City 3
Windscale 1 Kader 6
Comments: Kader stretch their lead at the top to six points. Boldon suffer more at the bottom of the league, losing 3-1 to Durham City.

2nd March:
Darlington 1 South Durham 5
Durham 1 Kader 3

Comments: Both Kader and Gretna win to keep the exciting battle for the championship going. South Durham notch up a terrific victory beating Darlington 5-1.

9th March:
Kader 1 Killingworth 3
Boldon 1 Darlington 3
Comments: Kader's title bid takes a turn for the worse with a defeat at home to Killingworth. Darlington bounce back from their heavy defeat the previous week with a victory at Boldon.

16th March:
Kader 4 Darlington 3
South Durham 1 Gretna 7
Windscale 1 Killingworth 2
Marton 1 Billingham 3
Comments: No real suprises as the results go with league positions. Billingham play their first game since January and return to winning ways. Gretna continue their push for the title.

23rd March:
Billingham 8 Boldon 0
Gretna 7 Darlington 0
Windscale 2 Durham 2
Comments: Gretna continue in their search of the championship with a comprehensive 7-0 victory over Darlington.

31st March:
Billingham 2 Gretna 2
Killingworth 6 Durham 3
S Durham 1 Darlington 6
Comments: Billingham take point off Gretna. With Darlington winning and Durham losing it would appear that 7th is the best Durham can hope for.

7th April:
Kader 0 Marton 1
Gretna 7 Durham 0
Windscale 0 Darlington 1
Killingworth 9 S Durham 0
Comments: With Kader losing the title looks almost certainly Gretna's. Killingworth continue their excellent run of form in their challenge for runners up spot.

14th April:
Darlington 0 Billingham 0
Billingham 4 Windscale 1
Kader 4 Darlington 0
Boldon 1 South Durham 1
Comments: Boldon get their second point of the season. League title looks like being Gretna's.
