There was a place in the
starting line up for Amanda Smith for Durham as Gemma
Charlton had not quite shaken off a knee injury. Linda
Matchell was back in the squad for the first time this
season.
The game started brighter
for Durham and they soon had Darlington under pressure.
Helen Richardson almost scored for the home team and Nicola
Sebastinelly also went close with a free kick.
Before half time however,
Darlington struck twice through their striker Lawrence. City
'keeper Boughen could only look on as both strikes went in
off the woodwork.
Martens - Solid in Defence

The second half started as the
first half ended with the more experienced Darlington team
forcing Durham back. City did however come on strong in the
last twenty minutes as they searched for a way back into the
game. Richardson earned a deserved Woman of the Match award
by going close on a number of occasions. But the day
belonged to Darlington and Lawrence in particular who
completed her hat-trick late in the game with an excellent
goal.
Durham are back in action
in two Sundays time when they take on local rivals South
Durham who were formerly known as Newton Aycliffe. The team
from Aycliffe are looking for their first points of the
season but Durham will be out to stop them and will be
hoping to get back to winning ways.
