Durham
City Ladies chances of qualifying for the semi finals of the
knock out cup took a blow when they were defeated in the
group stage by Darlington RA 3-1.
Carr - WOM
|
The more experienced
Darlington side probably deserved their victory as they put
3 past Durham in the opening 15 minutes. Darlington's
impressive center forward Lawrence scored the first two
goals from close range.
Left midfielder Hayes then
scored with a well struck shot from the corner of the box to
make it three and at that stage of the game it looked as if
Durham were heading for a heavy defeat.
However, City rallied and
started to come into the game more. Striker Helen Richardson
had the visitors best chance of the half when she broke
through Darlington's defence, only for her shot to be saved
by the 'keeper.
Smith - Goal
|
Twenty minutes into the second
half City winger Amanda Smith converted Magda Carr's cross
to pull the score back to 3-1. Unfortunately for Durham they
could not get anything further out of the game despite
Gressmann and Charlton coming close to scoring.
