Durham
City Ladies started their Northen League First Division
Campaign off with a great win against Teeside based outfit
Marton.
Charlton - Scored from
corner
|
An exciting first half saw
chances at both ends. Marton looked dangerous going forward
and only fine defensive work by Brady and some brave
goalkeeping by Boughen kept the young Teeside team's chances
down to a minimum.
Marton did break the
deadlock, however, when Robina Todd ran from midfield and
cooly finished. At the other end of the pitch Magda Carr and
Amanda Smith were looking sharp and both had chances to
score but were unlucky. Just before half time Durham drew level when City's
young midfielder Gemma Charlton scored directly from
a corner.
Boughen - Great Saves and
WOM
|
The second half was much the
same as the first with both teams having chances. Marton
forward Rebecca Angus fired the visitors 2-1 in front with
half an hour to go. Durham then went up the other end and
substitute Helen Richardson was brought down in the box for
a penalty. Julie Campbell strode up to fire Durham
back into the game.
With five minutes to go
Richardson grabbed a late winner for Durham when she went
clean through to slot past the advancing 'keeper. In
the final minutes Marton hit
the bar and City keeper Boughen made a final great save but the three points went to Durham.
