MATCH REPORT

Durham City Ladies moved up to third place in the Northern League 1st Division with a tremendous win against Boldon.

Richardson - WOM
Richardson - Wonderful goal

With 19 Durham players available there were some tough decisions for City Manager Stephen Hamil but he decided to start with the same team that had won against South Durham the previous Sunday.

Durham took the game to Boldon from the kick off, but to be fair to the visitors they defended well and Durham were restricted to shots from outside the box.

Before half-time Durham were rewarded for their pressure and Helen Richardson latched onto a Gemma Charlton through ball and fired City 1-0 in front. Minutes later Charlton herself stretched the lead to 2-0 after a the Boldon defence made a mess of their off-side trap. Charlton found herself clean through and stayed cool to slot past the 'keeper.

Unfortunately for Durham on the stroke of half-time they lost their goalkeeper Jo Hunter. Hunter fell awkwardly and news from the hospital is that she has broken her collarbone.

The second half was a quieter affair, the highlight being a wonder-goal from City striker Richardson. Sharon Brady played it through to Richardson who then took the ball past four Boldon defenders before firing home. Magda Carr could count herself unlucky not to stretch the lead when her shot came back off the crossbar. Boldon then got a consolation goal, Simpson received the ball in the box and then turned two Durham defenders to make the final score 3-1.
