Unfortunately
Durham did not get the point that they required to win the
Women's Northern League 2nd Division. Penrith beat Durham
2-1 and with Newton Aycliffe beating Horden 9-0 this means
that Newton Aycliffe finish the season one point above
Durham.

Durham had got off to a
confident start with Magda Carr and Gemma Charlton both
coming close. Helen Richardson then had a goal disallowed
when the referee judged her challenge on the 'keeper was
illegal.
Penrith always looked dangerous on the break, and this
proved the case when Cath Beck scored for the visitors.
Durham then battled back and Gemma Charlton equalised
with a great strike from a free kick.

The second half started in a
similar manner to the first with Durham applying the
pressure but not being able to apply the finishing touch.
Penrith scored with twenty minutes to go from a well taken
penalty from Nicola Armstrong.
Durham Manager Stephen
Hamil was upbeat after the game, "I feel a little sorry
for the girls after they have worked so hard all year but we
have progressed well in our first season. Although the
league is finished, we are still in the cup and we now have
to give that our best shot".
