MATCH REPORT |
Durham
City Ladies eventually lost 2-1 away to a strong
Killingworth side in the Northern League Cup. It was the
first time that Durham have played a competitive match
against First Division opposition and they coped very well.
Turner - Woman of the match
|
Killingworth opened the
scoring with Ridley's impressive free kick from 25 yards.
Durham, however, battled back and Magda Carr scored a
great goal chipping the Killingworth 'keeper for her 16th of the season. Goalkeeper Korraine Boughen had to come
off just before half time with an injury but Lesley Millar volunteered
to go between the sticks.
Symons - Solid in defence
|
The second half saw
Killingworth enjoy the lion's share of possession but great
defending by Durham, especially Woman of the Match, Claire
Turner kept the home team's chances down to a minimum.
However, the game was won by a long range effort from
Killingworth's McBride mid-way through the second half.A
Durham City Spokesperson commented, "Although the girls
got beat they came off the field very upbeat after almost
matching a team near the top of the First Division. On the
strength of this performance the girls would not look out of place in the higher division".
